Can We Achieve Peace?

Peace on Earth can sound like a distant dream — a virtuous vision, often spoken about yet not always believed possible within our lifetime. Many people pray for peace, but fewer of us pause to consider the barriers to peace in our bodies, our homes, and our daily lives. Are we truly willing to do the inner work required to cultivate peace within ourselves?

For surely this is how we move towards peace on Earth: from within.

It is easy to blame world leaders, systems, or institutions for the conflict or greed we witness. And yes, voting, petitioning and protesting play an important role. But lasting change is unlikely without the alchemy of our own pain — without transforming our disconnection, our separation, and the places within us that are not at peace.

When we reflect on peace in the body, it might show up as the constant comparison, the critical inner voice, or the subtle ways we wish we were somehow different — smaller, stronger, younger, more energised, more capable.

Peace in the body doesn’t always align with the way we speak to ourselves.

When we consider peace in the home, it may be challenged by unspoken expectations, long-held resentments, misunderstandings, or the habits of judgement and subtle control that can arise in any relationship.

Peace in the home doesn’t always align with our behaviours.

And in our wider lives, peace is stretched by everyday stresses — work pressures, family dynamics, financial worries, social divides, or the constant speed of modern living that pulls us away from stillness and connection.

Yet peace is not passive. Peace takes work, patience, and courage. A genuine call for peace does not ask us to bypass discomfort, sweep disagreements under the carpet, or pretend everything is fine. Instead, it invites us to look honestly at all the ways we distance ourselves from peace, and all the ways we can soften back into it.
