Why Do I Sometimes Feel Like I Am Back Where I Started?

Healing Is Not Linear

The healing journey isn’t linear, which means that sometimes when we heal, we move forward and sometimes it may appear we are back where we started or going over old ground. As we move through the healing journey, we may open up old wounds, and parts of self that are ready to heal. This can feel uncomfortable, but it doesn’t mean we are going backward. In fact, for many of us, there comes a time when it is necessary to feel things that we haven’t been able to feel, or it hasn’t been safe to feel.

Every time we heal, we are able to bring more light into our body, and energy body, and as we integrate that light, we will have a bigger energy field. Having a bigger cleaner aura is generally helpful, it makes life feel easier; however, it may mean that the light now shines on parts of self that were previously in the dark, for example, another part of lack of self-worth, anger, or pain etc. and then boom – there is more stuff to clear up…

I find thinking of the healing journey as a spiral helpful. We work on something, we move up and around, and we then may come back to the old thing at a new vibration.  Think of it like refining the self.

Ways to support yourself on the healing journey

The healing journey can be quite an adventure, as we heal, we may go through any one of the below states, sometimes we can go through all of them in one day!

  • Processing
  • Integrating
  • Accelerating
  • Deep Peace

When we are in deep peace – the best advice I can give you is to enjoy it; this is a wonderful phase, and one we shouldn’t take for granted, so enjoy it.

Acceleration – is when we can feel ourselves learning, growing, and understanding more of ourselves, and who we are. It is generally a pleasant state to be in, this state may not require much support, but it is advisable to keep your energy body clean, and at a high vibration so that when this phase settles you are at the best vibration.

Integrating – this is generally after a phase of processing or accelerating, it can feel like not a lot is happening here, but it is an important phase, it allows us to catch up with ourselves and all the healing, it can be a phase where we are learning to put the new skills in to practice, i.e. after having an upgrade to our self-esteem, we may have a phase where we learn to integrate this and have better boundaries etc.

Processing: this phase is generally not so pleasant, it can happen right before we expand, and it can feel painful and churny! It is the time when we may suddenly be aware of our ‘stuff.’ We may be aware of issues in our life, big emotions, or be in a physical process (i.e. sick as a way of managing what is going on energetically)

This is the time to really look after yourself.

Here are some top tips to look after yourself while on the healing journey:

  • Book a session with a qualified therapist: you do not need to do this alone; support is available.
  • Regular meditation. Either join a group or practice by yourself.
  • Exercise can be super helpful, allowing the energy (which may have got stuck) to release. Running, dancing, shaking, or yoga are all very helpful.
  • Eat clean food – avoid processed food, red meat, alcohol, and drugs, all of these can block the system and make healing more challenging
  • Walking in Nature. Get outside and let the elements, (sun earth air, and water) cleanse you.  Get away from people if you can and immerse yourself in the healing energies of mother nature.  Swimming in the sea, forest bathing, and generally being outside are very beneficial.
  • Have fun – it is important to have fun while on the healing journey, looking after our inner child is key, and often the healing journey can feel heavy. It’s ok to take a break from the inner work and have some fun; in fact, it’s encouraged.  If fun in the past has meant certain unhealthy habits, then you may like some support to find new ways of having fun.
  • Spend time with people you love, who lift you up and encourage you, who see the best in you. Having a community of like-minded people, and or a support group can be really helpful. This is one of the core principles of the Anonymous groups and has a proven record of success in supporting addiction.
  • Rest and sleep are key. When we are healing, we may require more sleep, to allow ourselves to process and integrate.
  • Drink plenty of water. This helps us flush through any toxins that may be released after healing; around 2 liters a day is recommended.
  • Journalling is a great way to understand ourselves more deeply. It can help get our thoughts straight, and or empty our minds. I find the best way to start is to ask myself a question and see what happens.
  • Mantra/chanting is an excellent way to raise your vibration, empty the mind, and focus on something positive. Mantra is my go-to if I have a busy mind, or I am overthinking. I often find that 30 minutes of mantra sends me into bliss, changes my energy body, and gets me ready for the day. I run mantra sessions on Zoom most mornings, they are free and open to all, if you would like to join, feel free to join the WhatsApp group here. LINK

The good news is, you don’t have to do this alone. I will guide you and where appropriate teach you skills and tools so that you can take care of yourself and make the healing journey as smooth as possible.  Having someone hold space, love, and compassion as we heal is so helpful. I am so grateful for all the master healers who have held this space while I grow in my healing journey.

And the even better news is that every time we work through stuff, we are transforming, and every time we transform, there is more joy, more love, and more light.  Our lives, relationships, and wealth are all able to flourish.
